Captain Dwain Craddock

Like most people, I started by focusing on boats, gear, and destinations-trying to learn everything I could before getting on the water. My first boat was a Catalina sailboat used in the movie "What about Bob?" and I learned to sail on a lake in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virgina. Later, I moved to Calfornia and I spent time sailing on San Francisco Bay and the west coast.

Years later, I purchased a Nordhavn trawler and began traveling more seriously. Since then, I have logged over 18,000 miles-from Virginia, to the Caribbean, Panama Canal and up the coast to the Sea of Cortez and finally British Columbia in Canada.

What became clear along the way is this: most problems offshore don't start offshore-they start with decisions made long before departure-often before buying a boat.

As a solo cruiser, even getting away from the dock without forgetting something critical felt like an accomplishment. There are more moving parts than most people expect, and trying to manage it all in your head doesn't hold up for long.

I started building a simple system to keep things organized-first as a checklist, then something more structured. Over time, that evolved into NAVOPLAN. Then artificial intelligence began to mature and my background in technology and human performance made it enjoyable to enhance NAVOPLAN into a real offering of value.

NAVOPLAN is built from real use-working through decisions before departure and underway-and focusing on what tends to get overlooked until it becomes a problem.
