Why is it important to prepare a float plan?

The answer is simple... there are just too many facts that need to be accurately remembered and ultimately conveyed in an emergency situation. Without a float plan you are counting on someone else, a friend, neighbor, or family member to remember detailed information that rescue personnel need in order to find you. Information that can make a difference in the outcome.

Despite its importance, less than 5% of boaters create and send a float plan to a responsible person before embarking on a voyage. It’s also common for the person on land to forget the expected arrival time and fail to notify authorities if you're delayed—sometimes for days. In the case of a multi-day passage, there's no way to pinpoint where trouble may have occurred.

NAVOPLAN’s Digital Float Plan automatically generates a comprehensive float plan on demand. By simply uploading a GPX file when planning a new voyage, NAVOPLAN gathers all the necessary data to create a current float plan. This plan includes tracking information, the last known position, and the time of the last contact—information that is invaluable for providing assistance or search and rescue efforts.
